Musings — Forsaken Hero Getting a LN!?

The following was taken from Yujima Ran’s blog post, which can be found here. What you will see at the end of this post are my own thoughts.

Information on [The Epic Tale of the Forsaken Hero]’s Publication

Good evening everyone, it’s been a while.
Yujima Ran here.

It’s as the title says.
It was decided that [The Epic Tale of the Forsaken Hero] will be published as a Light Novel.

My hands are still shaking in excitement.

It’s been more than two years since I began to write the series and I feel truly honored at being given a chance like this.

And because I do appreciate having this opportunity—
As well as because of all of the support I’ve received from my readers this whole time—
I want to give it my all.

Even if it is somewhat sluggish, I have resumed updating once again.

The updates will resume starting July 1st.
As ever, I may be inexperienced, but I will do my best.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you all from here on out.

The formal title, release date, etc. will be announced as soon as I find out.
I’ll leave it there for now, see you soon.

So, everyone.

This is a thing that’s happening.

I assume that he’ll be rewriting the story a good amount, given the fact that he’s already shown some level of regret over certain events. I think I might give translating the LN a shot once it is released. Of course, not until I’m in a better situation with the other series I translate—namely, catching up to current on Magus of Genesis, finishing Dragon’s Bloodline, and making up for the releases of Inside the Cave of Obscenity and The Guild’s Cheat Receptionist that I’m behind on.

Yeah. I’m actually rather excited here. This series was the first one I ever translated, after all. What do you all think?

  1. This is an exciting development. I actually wasn’t quite expecting this to happen yet. I’ve enjoyed your translation so far, and was slightly depressed when I heard it was on hiatus. It’s be great if you do find time to translate it.

  2. It’s been a while since I read it and put it on hold to let chapters pile up. Then all the incomplete arcs happened. If you end up doing the LN when you have time, I can definitely consider rereading it.

  3. So long as you catch up with your releases, go for it. Although, I am worried that you might be stepping on some toes of corporate muscle.

  4. Yes, please do translate the LN i would love to see the revisins he has made. This was the second LN I got into after reading Arifureta a few years ago and both those stories got me into the revenge after summoned to other world type stories. I might just have to read forsken for a 5 time now.

  5. this sounds awesome lets see what slight changes he did from the WN even though i must say a WN its just a Rough Draft for the choosen LN laters so changes will ever happen like lets say “Shield bro” when the WN was sort of the true story the LN is sort of a “what IFstory” aka ( parallel universe – for example what would happen if u let a coin fall and what if it didn’t happen)

  6. Honestly, this series was the second Japanese novel I ever read online. The first was Re:Monster, the second was this, while you were still translating it. I think you had just finished translating the first arc(aka “chapter”) that I found you and read it here. I am indeed quite excited for this.^^XDD

On another note, I do somewhat miss the black background your site used to have back you were translating Forsaken Hero.

  7. Hmm… the worry I have is how much he’ll actually be able to write. The author seemed very indescisive with how much weight each character’s life holds. He needs to quickly decide if killing off a character no matter how significant or perhaps because of their significance will work in favor of fully fleshing out “the ones who remain” through survivor’s guilt.

These characters were never perfect to begin with. They hesitated, they failed to stand up, and they’re struggling to find their footing. It only makes sense that one of them would have to die in order to fully propel our protagonists towards fulfilling their story potential.

  8. Welp, I’m glad, that there are news about this WN. I enjoyed the first 3 stories/volumes/whatever. Buuuut… the autor will restart this novel? That means, he’ll probably need another 1,5 years to reach volume 3 to drop this novel again? Hope, this time goes better… gl or 頑張って

  9. It seems like it will be quite interesting indeed! Personally, I came to the site for LDM, but I enjoy most of the novels here (the cave of obscenity and the happy peach are…ehh…).

I wish you luck with whichever path you choose to take!

  10. it would be awesome if you do translate it! Forsaken hero was the first novel I read online, and (before that final arc anyways), it remains one of my favorites

  11. Long, long time ago, before the age of LDM I had come here, seeking the warmth of a story filled with hatred, betrayal and vengeance… with a truly cold-blooded, hell-bent on getting back at the greater evildoers kind of Main Character. I do not remember when exactly did it happen or how did I learn of the novel going by the name Suterareta Yuusha no Eiyuutan (if my memory serves me right that is) anymore. The thing that kept me here after Forsaken Hero was put on hold was the quality and consistency of translations, but first and foremost the choice of the series translated. There was rarely seen variety of themes: Lazy Dungeon Master (basically a comedy with some pretty serious moments), Dragon’s Bloodline (OP martial artist reborn as an even more OP little girl), Guild’s Cheat Receptionist (a guy turned into a beautiful girl in a fantasy world) and of course Cave of Obscenity and Happy Peach. While I am fully content with the current amount of chapters of different novels available here for us readers (once I start working as a vet and earning money I might actually turn from a leecher to a donator) it would definitely let me feel this nostalgic feeling once again, reading the story of the one who rose from the depths of death to lay waste to all of his enemies 😉
I am really looking forward to it, but you should not rush with it, our benevolent lord Ziru-sama

  12. Nice! I hope this time around everyone except scumbags get a better ending. Then again the dark feeling of this novel is quite nice too… Well regardless I’ll be reading this LN when it’s out regardless XD.
I won’t even be greedy and hope it’ll get an anime cause I’m happy Ernesti got animated already.

  13. I dropped it at some point but it’s still nice to hear.
If you’re fine translating the LN then I don’t see why not.
